Who founded Ohva?
Ellamae was born with MRKH syndrome and she is so over the stigma. She founded Ohva as she wanted a brand that was open to all humans going through all types of different and difficult experiences seeking comfort, pleasure and space. For some, comfort during pleasure is something they only dream of due to different conditions such as vaginismus, MRKH syndrome, differences in sex development, vulva or vaginal pain, dryness after the menopause and more.
Ohva is the sister brand to Va Va Womb, which exists to shake the stigma surrounding our health and happiness.
At 16 years old, Ellamae hadn't started her period and the sex she tried to have was extremely painful. She found out that she didn't have a womb or cervix and the majority of her vagina did not develop fully. She was handed a clinical set of vaginal dilators which she used for 3 months to slowly stretch her vagina over time, to make penetrative sex more comfortable.
As a teenager, she didn't know that her body was already capable of pleasure with a lack of pleasure-education. And that penetration was only one type of sex that was pretty over rated, given that the majority of orgasms for women and people with vulvas are clitoral. Dilation felt like she was fixing herself, but she wished she knew she wasn't broken in the first place.
During dilation and through the trauma of being a grief stricken teenager with a tainted relationship with her body - she discovered that having a vagina was over rated and the real magic was her vulva. And of course, her clitoris. She says "Don't get me wrong, I love having penetrative sex but I wish I had known my pleasure was no less as a woman born without a vagina, because I have always had a vulva. Penetrative sex is really enjoyable for me since I did create a vaginal canal when I was younger, but it's nothing without the clitoris which surrounds the vulva and the entrance of my vagina.".
